Hockey is not just growing around the country, it is growing rapidly with kids in Florida. A popular program in Florida that some not be familiar with is the South Florida Hockey Program. In this program, kids are able to play in all different levels to help them become better hockey players. They have camps and clinics that players of all ages can attend
One cool feature about the camps is that the coaches of the teams are former players in the NHL. Some of the coaches include Olli Jokinen, Petr Sykora, Tomas Vokoun, and Radek Dvorak. The coaches in these programs like these are the reason why hockey has grown so much in Florida, and why kids born in Florida are playing in the NHL.
The players they have as coaches range in where they are from.
Radek Dvorak played over 1300 games in the NHL. He played in some of the biggest games that were ever played including Stanley Cups as well as eight different teams.
Young kids can also go there if they are interested in playing goalie. Thomas Vokoun is a former NHL goalie that has spent time with the Florida Panthers. Jussi Jokinen played in over 1200 games as well as the Olympics. Peter Sykora also played in over 1000 games in the NHL.
Though for some of the younger players, they may not know the coaches like they do of Alex Oveckin and Sydney Crosby, but all these players have all made their impact in the league and help make hockey in Florida if not as good, better than many other states.
