Just like NHL regular season coming to an end, minor league hockey is as well. The Florida Everglades are an affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes and play in the ECHL in Southwest Florida.
Many players from the ECHL spend time in the AHL as players go on loans from teams to teams.
The Everglades play in Germain Arena, and just wrapped up one of the most successful regular season they have ever had. They finished with 97 points in 72 games, which is 11 more points than the second place team. Going 46-21-2, the Everglades are heading into the playoffs as a number one seed.
They will take on the Orlando Solar Bears for a best of seven series in the Kelly Cup playoffs. There first game will be on April 12th at home.
The two teams have met three times since April 5th in the regular season with the Everglades winning two of the three games including a 10-0 win on April 8th.
Brendan O'Donnell finished the regular season with 41 goals in 61 games and finished with 80 points, which was second on the team. Brant Harris led the team with 83 points, which was fourth in the entire league.
Matt Willows scored 23 goals a season ago, but was nearly doubled this season on O'Donnell's best professional season of his career.
The Everglades have had 57 players make it to the NHL including Chicago Blackhawks backup goalie Scott Darling and Bruins backup goalie Anton Khoudobin.
Though the Carolina Hurricanes won’t be in the Stanley Cup playoffs, fans can still see there minor hockey league team play as playoffs are beginning in all hockey leagues now.
